Gaimin Gladiators, often shortened to GG, were one of the most successful Dota 2 teams of the 2020s. In less than four years they went from a newly signed Western European roster to the team that dominated the 2023 season, reached two straight finals at The International, and then split apart in late 2025. This is a dated recap of that run, based on results recorded by Liquipedia.
GG, a Canadian esports organisation, entered Dota 2 on February 8, 2022 by signing the players of Team Tickles: dyrachyo, BOOM, Ace, tOfu and Seleri, with ImmortalFaith as coach. The squad had impressed in the first tour of the 2021-2022 Western Europe season.
They made an early mark by beating Team Liquid in the Western Europe regional finals, the start of a rivalry that shaped the next two years. Later in 2022 the team placed fourth at the Stockholm Major and finished in the middle of the field at The International 2022.
Changes followed at the end of the year. The team parted ways with mid player BOOM in October and coach ImmortalFaith in November. In December, Cy- joined as coach and Quinn took over the mid lane.
The rebuilt line-up of dyrachyo, Quinn, Ace, tOfu and Seleri had a first half of 2023 that few teams have matched:
Winning the Lima, Berlin and Bali Majors back to back made them the first team to take three consecutive Majors since OG in 2016-2017. Four of those five finals were against Liquid.
The rest of 2023 was strong but not perfect. They finished fourth at Riyadh Masters 2023, won BetBoom Dacha 2023 with a 3-1 final against TSM, and reached the grand final of The International 2023 in Seattle, where they lost 0-3 to Team Spirit.
In 2023 the Dota Pro Circuit was cancelled, so 2024 was built around independent tournaments. GG's biggest win of the year came at Riyadh Masters 2024, part of the Esports World Cup, where they beat Team Liquid 3-0 in the final on July 21 and took home $1,500,000.
At The International 2024 in Copenhagen, they reached the final again. This time Team Liquid won 3-0, so Gaimin Gladiators finished second at TI for the second year running. Our Dota 2 TI winners list shows how rare it is to reach back-to-back finals.
After TI 2024 the line-up began to change. Watson joined as carry in October 2024 and dyrachyo was released a week later, later moving to Tundra Esports. In February 2025 Seleri was moved to inactive and left in March. Malady, who had been standing in, became a full member in April.
On August 22, 2025, after receiving a direct invite, the organisation withdrew from The International 2025. Both sides gave public statements that did not agree:
Some details were not made public because of the legal dispute, so it is not possible to say more with confidence.
The roster then broke up. Quinn announced his retirement on September 17, 2025. Coach Cy- joined Natus Vincere later that month. Ace and tOfu moved to Team Liquid on October 9, the same rivals they had beaten in so many finals; you can read more in our Team Liquid profile. On October 22, watson and Malady joined Team Yandex, and Liquipedia lists the Gaimin Gladiators Dota 2 team as disbanded from that date.
By the time it ended, the Dota 2 roster had earned roughly $7.1 million in prize money according to Liquipedia. The 2023 Major hat-trick and the Riyadh Masters 2024 title are its standout results, alongside two TI silver medals.
For fans who bet on Dota 2, the story is a useful reminder that a team name does not guarantee the same players or the same level from one season to the next.
