What You Need to Know About Minecraft Bedrock’s Latest Update

Spring is here and while many people are excited about the Pink Moon on April 12 the Minecraft fans have something else to celebrate.

Mojang has just released a new beta and preview version for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, version 1.21.80.27 which came out on April 8, 2025. This update includes new features, better graphics and fun changes that can improve your gameplay whether you enjoy building in Creative Mode or surviving in Survival Mode.

Let us explain everything you need to know about this update. We’ll also answer some common questions about Minecraft versions and how to update your game.

What is The Happy Ghast

One of the most exciting new features is the Happy Ghast. This new mob was first shown during Minecraft Live 2025 and now it has made its way into the Bedrock update beta.

Unlike the regular ghasts that shoot fireballs in the Nether, the Happy Ghast is friendly and helpful.

Here’s what you can do with the Happy Ghast:

  • Grow them in the Overworld.
  • Craft a harness that lets you ride them.
  • Glide through the sky using the Happy Ghast which helps you travel quickly across long distances.

This feature is especially useful if you don’t want to walk or build tall towers to move around. You can now float above your world and enjoy a new way of exploring.

You can also meet ghastlings which are baby versions of the Happy Ghast. They are cute and perfect for creative builds. The update also includes dried ghast blocks, which are great for building with new textures and materials.

Right now, these features are only available in the Bedrock beta, but Mojang plans to bring them to Java Edition snapshots soon.

Major Graphics Update for Vibrant Visuals Feature

The second big feature is called Vibrant Visuals. This is a graphics improvement that makes Minecraft look more beautiful while keeping its classic block style.

Here are some of the changes in Vibrant Visuals:

  • Sunlight now shines more realistically through leaves and windows.
  • Shadows change as the time of day changes.
  • Water looks more clear and natural.
  • Fog rolls through valleys and mountains.
  • Underwater scenes now have a softer and more peaceful look.

It’s like using a shader pack, but directly in the game without any mods. This feature makes your world feel more alive and adds a touch of realism. You can turn this feature on or off depending on how powerful your device is or what kind of look you prefer.

At the moment, Vibrant Visuals is only available for Bedrock Edition but Mojang says Java Edition will get it later this year.

Is Minecraft 1.20 Bedrock?

Many players ask: “Is Minecraft 1.20 Bedrock?” The answer is yes and no.

Minecraft 1.20, called the Trails & Tales Update, came out in June 2023 for both Bedrock Edition and Java Edition. So yes, there is a version of 1.20 for Bedrock.

But Bedrock Edition is the name of the game version used on platforms like Xbox, Windows, mobile and consoles. It’s not called “1.20 Bedrock” forever it keeps updating.

Right now, we are already in the 1.21.80.27 beta version which means Bedrock Edition has moved past 1.20.

How to Update Minecraft: Bedrock Edition

If you want to try the new Happy Ghast or the Vibrant Visuals, you need to update your game.

Here’s how to do it depending on the platform you’re using:

On Xbox

  1. Go to My Apps and Games.
  2. Find Minecraft.
  3. Choose Manage Game and Add-Ons.
  4. Check for updates, or go to the Updates section and select Update All.

On Windows

  1. Open the Microsoft Store or Xbox app.
  2. Click on the Library tab.
  3. Press Update next to Minecraft.

If you want to try beta features, you need to join the Minecraft Preview Program:

  • On Xbox, download the Xbox Insider Hub and sign up for Minecraft Preview.
  • On Windows, install the Minecraft Preview version through the Store.

Remember to always back up your worlds before trying beta versions because beta updates can sometimes cause bugs or problems.

Is Minecraft 1.21 Out?

Another common question is: “Is Minecraft 1.21 out?” The answer is yes but only the main version.

The full update, known as Tricky Trials, came out on June 13, 2024, for all platforms. It added new features like trial chambers and new mechanics for both survival and adventure players.

However, the current version we are talking about, 1.21.80.27, is a beta and preview version and not the final version. Mojang is now releasing updates in smaller parts through the year.

This means new features like the Happy Ghast and Vibrant Visuals are still in testing and will become part of a future stable release.

Why This Minecraft Bedrock Update is Important

This new update is exciting for many reasons:

  • It brings new gameplay mechanics like riding a ghast.
  • It makes Minecraft look better than ever with updated graphics.
  • It comes shortly after the Minecraft Movie event keeping the game fresh and exciting.
  • It matches the season’s energy of new beginnings and discovery.

Many players are sharing videos and ideas online, showing how they use the new features in creative ways. This shows that even after all these years, Minecraft still finds new ways to surprise and entertain its players.

So, this new Minecraft Bedrock update isn’t just a small fix as it actually changes how you play the game in fun and exciting ways.

For example, you can now fly over your builds with a cool, smiling Ghast called the Happy Ghast! And the game looks even better now with Vibrant Visuals which means the colors and lighting in your world will pop and feel more alive.

If you love building stuff, going on adventures or just playing with your friends, this is a great time to come back to Minecraft.

And if you haven’t updated your game yet, make sure to follow the steps (they’re super easy) so you don’t miss out on all the new features.

More cool stuff is coming soon too, so keep an eye out for future updates. Some of these beta features will be added to the full game later on.
